Forest City Construction Focuses on Sustainable Development

Forest City is a model of sustainable and smart city development. It achieves effects such as carbon dioxide absorption, reduction of the heat island effect, and energy savings through greening systems, smart applications, and water cycle utilization. The project has received recognition as a global green and intelligent building paradigm. In addition, Forest City has achieved innovation through smart manufacturing bases, such as standardized design and prefabricated construction. The project has also received multiple awards for sustainable cities and human settlements.

Forest City adopts greening systems from the ground to the roof, with a total green area of 2.86 million square meters and vertical greening of approximately 256,000 meters. This helps plants absorb carbon dioxide, reduce the urban heat island effect, and lower the energy consumption of cooling and heating systems. Forest City also provides convenient transportation options through smart applications, offering infrastructure for walking and cycling, making the city greener and more flexible. Additionally, Forest City utilizes advanced technologies to enhance various aspects of urban life, stimulating creativity and vitality. The city achieves integrated operations in smart management, smart transportation, smart security, smart communities, and smart homes.

Forest City implements a water cycling system that collects and treats all wastewater, and utilizes a separate reclaimed water system for purposes such as roof greening, vertical greening, and outdoor greening irrigation. Currently, most of the water used for greening in Forest City comes from reclaimed water treatment, and in the future, seawater desalination technology will be used to achieve efficient water resource utilization.

Forest City Recognized Internationally with Global Green Intelligent Building Paradigm Awards

The Forest City Intelligent Manufacturing Base (CIBS), which commenced operations in 2017, is a comprehensive and modern architectural intelligent manufacturing base that integrates technological research and development, standardized design, automated production of prefabricated components, intelligent logistics, and prefabricated construction. It covers a planned area of over 400 acres. Through Industrialized Building Systems (IBS), the construction cycle of the project can be shortened by at least 30%. As a fast, safe, and quality building system, IBS helps improve productivity and competitiveness, reduce construction waste, and create a sustainable building environment.

Environmental Protection Measures in Forest City Construction and Development

Implementation of Building Environmental Management Plan Since February 2020, Forest City has implemented a Building Environmental Management Plan, requiring each project to submit an environmental protection construction design plan before commencing construction. The related costs are included in the project construction cost and strict enforcement is carried out. Once any violations are found, the project team will face severe penalties.

Installation of Double-Layer Silt Curtain To minimize the environmental impact of land reclamation, Forest City has invested approximately MYR 20 million to install a double-layer silt curtain (approximately 3,000 meters) along the boundary of the Singaporean waters to protect the environment and reduce the damage caused by land reclamation.

Collaboration with Environmental Consulting Company AES Since 2014, Forest City has invested MYR 6.4 million to engage the professional environmental consulting company AES for regular environmental monitoring to ensure continuous compliance with government environmental regulations.

Collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) for Seagrass Monitoring and Protection Since 2015, Forest City has been collaborating with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) for seagrass monitoring and protection. Through long-term monitoring and protection, the growth and ecosystem of seagrass are maintained in good condition.

Collaboration with Hydraulic Consultant Company DHI for Hydrological Research and Analysis Forest City has also engaged the professional hydraulic consultant company DHI for specialized hydrological research, providing professional advice on project development and monitoring the surrounding environment during project development to ensure compliance with government environmental standards.

Promotion of Mangrove Protection through Satellite Remote Sensing Technology Since 2017, Forest City has been using satellite remote sensing technology to monitor the condition of mangroves and carry out protection work.

Establishment of Patrol Teams to Prevent Illegal Logging of Mangroves Since 2017, Forest City has established a mangrove protection team to regularly patrol and prevent illegal logging activities.

The Forest City Intelligent Manufacturing Base (CIBS), which started operations in 2017, introduced advanced systems from Germany, Italy, and China. Compared to traditional on-site concrete components, the produced concrete components are faster, more environmentally friendly, and effectively reduce construction waste. Forest City’s IBS factory was recorded in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) in April 2019, becoming Malaysia’s largest fully automated IBS factory.

Since November 2019, Forest City has launched the “FC GO GREEN” program and conducts monthly environmental activities. The initial idea was to promote environmental awareness among employees, but it has now become a landmark program for Forest City, connecting residents, local communities, non-governmental organizations, and surrounding schools in green initiatives.
